About the Artist

Maggie is a Filipina-American artist, designer, and InterVarsity alumna from Wisconsin. Maggie has helped non-profits, churches, and entrepreneurs see their creative and innovative ideas come to life to see communities thrive. Her intuitive imagination combined with her embodied global experiences of people, stories, and spaces lend themselves to her artistic vision. You can find her in her natural habitat wrapped in blankets with a fresh cup of tea, playing video games, and extrovert-ing with good friends and mentors. View more of Maggie’s work at mwaldmyerdesign.com or find her on Instagram @mwaldmyer.

FAQs

What if I am not Pilipino American, or don’t serve PAIV students?

While we long to see every Pilipino American student taste and see Jesus in a refreshing and compelling way, we also believe that everyone can benefit from seeing Jesus through other cultures. Please watch the Blessing video in the training PPT for more!

How do I Print?

Download the Proxe PDF. Send it to your favorite print shop and ask them to print a half sheet on cardstock.

What is a Pocket Proxe?

A Proxe is a set of large, interactive visual displays meant to start spiritual conversations on campus (with passers-by, both strangers and friends). The term Proxe is a made-up word that we use for interactive art displays that lead to the Gospel. This portable “Pocket” Proxe allows you to have spiritual conversations anywhere: cafe, after class, in the dorm, at work, your small group, you name it.

What do I do after the pocket proxe?

Kapwa Leadership Institute 2023

This institute is a dream of InterVarsity Staff who desired to gather key Pilipino Americans who are in college or recently graduated for a time to grow their leadership skills. We believe that there are unique contributions that Pilipino young adults bring to God’s work on campus and this institute is an attempt to challenge your thinking, address issues facing your community, and unlock your potential as a person and a leader.

We want to gather individuals who are ready to grow in their leadership skills and use them on campus and beyond. At KALI23 you will join a diverse community of Pilipino Americans and experience:

  • One-on-one mentoring from Pilipino American IV staff

  • Deep and creative scripture study

  • Pilipino American specific seminars and resourcing

  • Ethnic identity exploration

We will focus on the Parable of the Prodigal Son: returning and being welcomed home. How may Pilipinos on campus need to return, be welcomed, and welcome others? This brings up the idea of “balikbayan." (balikbayan(n.) - a Flipino who returns to the Philippines. Balikbayan is a portmanteau, wherein one word, balik, means to return, and the other word, bayan, means homeland). At KALI23 we hope to see this generation of Pilipino-American students:

  • Return to the Father: grow in love and personal ownership of their relationship with God

  • Return to their identity: invest in their Pilipino identity

  • Invite others to return home: be empowered to lead others in their faith journeys on campus, at home, and in churches

Pilipino American InterVarsity Resources

Moses Identity Bible Study

A six-week Bible study series for Pilipino American students to explore their Pilipino identity by studying Moses' journey throughout Exodus. Each week, students will go through an anecdote related to Pilipino identity, a passage in Exodus and a related application. This is a great starter Bible study for Pilipino small groups or chapters to go through to be discipled in their ethnic identity, evangelism, lordship issues and more!
